Former Clairton star LaMont Wade will return to Penn State for his junior season, he announced on Twitter on Sunday night.
After moving from cornerback to safety following his freshman season, Wade played in nine games for Penn State in 2018 and made 18 tackles, including one in Penn State’s Citrus Bowl loss to Kentucky on Jan. 1.
It was less than two weeks after that game that it became publicly known that Wade had entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal, which gives other schools permission to contact student athletes.
But after another two weeks, Wade apparently decided that his situation at Penn State, where he could be in line to start at safety in 2019, was worth returning to.
“After long thoughts, prayers and conversations, I’ve come to the decision that I will be removing my name from the transfer portal and continue to pursue my degree which I’m 3 semesters away from completing and getting back to my brothers,” Wade wrote on Twitter.
“I look forward to making an impact on the field for the 2019 Penn State Nittany Lions. Sometimes we have to make short term sacrifices to achieve our long term goals, and I believe this is what’s best for me right now.”
Wade was one of 11 Penn State players to enter the portal this offseason, but is so far the only one to return to State College.
