Pitt Ends Recruitment of 2019 Center Nigel John

It’s starting to look like Jeff Capel is putting a wrap on recruiting the Class of 2019 and that the current group of players is what he’ll be going with for the upcoming season.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned tonight that 2019 center Nigel John no longer has a committable scholarship offer to Pitt.

From what we understand, Pitt stopped recruiting John when they received a commitment from graduate transfer Eric Hamilton. It likely was a situation where that scholarship for a big man was going to the first player that committed which was Hamilton.

Another factor was the lack of communication that Pitt was able to have with John and his family/camp.

Once it became apparent that John was dragging his feet with giving a commitment, Jeff Capel turned his focus to Hamilton, who didn’t waste any time and made a quick commitment to the Panthers.

If this is the last addition for 2019, Capel will not be using two scholarships and will use them instead for the Class of 2020.

Smart move. There is nothing but scraps left. Focus on players that have built a bond with for 2020. The whole camp and handler stuff with these college kids is nuts too. Imagine being a 45 or 50 year old guy that has to beg or pay 17 or 18 year old children to come to your school so you can stay employed and continue making hundreds of thousands or millions on their exploitment or through the bribery of their family or handlers.
