Keith Dambrot has recruited solid backcourt depth for the next couple years. Now, he’s trying to solidify his future frontcourt.

On Monday, the Dukes made an attempt to do that by extending an offer to a talented junior from New Jersey.

Class of 2020 power forward Matt Zona (6-foot-9, 235 pounds) from Bergen Catholic in Oradell, New Jersey received an offer from the Dukes.

Zona is a modern day stretch forward that can attack the basket with the ability to also knock down shots from the perimeter.

Zona now holds offers from schools such as Brown, Bryant, Davidson, George Washington, Hofstra, Lehigh, Penn, Rice, Richmond, Robert Morris, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s and Yale.

Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up briefly with Zona last night after he got the news from Dambrot.

“I found out about the offer on a call with Coach Dambrot,” said Zona. “My initial thoughts are they are a great program with a great coaching staff. Duquesne is a competitive team in an extremely competitive conference. The way Duquesne uses their bigs is intriguing.

“I am hearing from Yale, Penn, Richmond, Rice, Davidson, Harvard and Lehigh a lot right now. I have no visits planned as of right now.”

Following the 2019-20 season, Dambrot will have to replace graduate transfer Baylee Steele, and forward Mike Hughes will graduate in 2021, so adding size is a priority for the upcoming recruiting class.
