Now that Jeff Capel is presumably finished adding to his roster for the upcoming 2020-21 season, things were made even more official as the five players signed were assigned uniform numbers.
Newcomers Max Amadasun, Noah Collier, John Hugley, William Jeffress and Femi Odukale announced on a short video on Twitter their first uniform numbers for Pitt, along with Ithiel Horton, who will change his uniform to No. 0 after wearing No. 3 while sitting out last season.
Horton’s No. 0 was vacated by Eric Hamilton’s graduation. Odukale will wear No. 2, which became available after the transfer of Trey McGowens. Collier will wear Horton’s old No. 3. Hugley will take No. 23 from transferred forward Samson George. Jeffress will take No. 24 from transferred guard Ryan Murphy. Amadasun will suit up in No. 35, which was last worn by Zach Smith in 2017-18.
Pitt’s Class of 2020 was just ranked No. 16 in the final Rivals Class ranking, which was Pitt’s highest recruiting ranking since 2012. In just his third year at Pitt, Capel got the Panthers to rise 24 spots in the recruiting rankings, as Pitt was No. 40 in 2019.
INDIVIDUAL PITT PLAYER RANKINGS (PER RIVALS):
John Hugley: No. 77 (four-star)
William Jeffress: No. 79 (four-star)
Femi Odukale: No. 145 (three-star)
Noah Collier: not ranked (three-star)
Max Amadasun: not ranked (three-star)
Awesome recruiting class. Hopefully our idiot leaders will allow the kids to play. With Horton and the top level freshmen the talent level and depth is finally there.
