NCAA Basketball Outlines Plan for Summer Workouts; D-I Council to Vote on Wednesday

The Division I men’s and women’s basketball oversight committees have finalized recommendations for summer basketball activities, the NCAA announced on Tuesday.

The full Division I Council will vote on the proposal on Wednesday.

The plan calls for virtual voluntary activities continuing through June and transitioning to in-person weight training, conditioning, team meetings and film review, beginning July 1, with the usual offseason maximum of eight hours per week. That period will run through July 19.

Mandatory on-court activities can start July 20 and last eight weeks until the school’s first day of classes or Sept. 15 at the latest. During that time, four hours of week can be used for on-court skill instruction as part of the total eight hours per week maximum.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that Pitt’s incoming freshman men’s basketball players have been told to be ready to report to campus in advance of the July 1 changeover date, in anticipation of this measure passing on Wednesday.
