The Pitt basketball program received a major setback as they at least temporarily have lost a major recruit.
Class of 2022 four-star guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has decided to de-commit from Pitt and re-open his recruitment. Hood-Schifino, who recently transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida, originally committed to Pitt back in December of 2019.
A source close to the situation tells Pittsburgh Sports Now that this news does not mean that Hood-Schifino won’t eventually end up at Pitt. The reason Hood-Schifino re-opened his recruitment is he just wants to properly go through the recruiting process as he originally committed to Pitt as a sophomore.
Hood-Schifino committed to Pitt as a sophomore and wants to properly go through the recruiting process before making a final decision. Kansas, Kentucky and North Carolina are a few of the teams showing interest.
Pittsburgh Sports Now is told that Pitt is still very high on Hood-Schifino’s list and that he and his family “love Coach Capel and Pitt” but he wants to be sure and make the best decision for his future.
UPDATE (Tuesday):
When does a kid de-commit then end up
with that school at the end of the day?
Never!
Agree move on
There will not be any basketball or sports then anyway. The government has destroyed our lives with their covid psyop. You feel bad for these kids that work hard for scholarships and now that opportunity has been taken from them.
I wouldn’t come to Kansas. The FBI is investigating them and the NCAA has charged them with five level one violations. They could be on probation or other restrictions.
Of course anyone caught accepting money from a shoe company to play at a school will not play any college ball. These charges against KU are current as of July 2020.
I also feel Coach Self has poor control of his team. When KU played Kansas State a brawl broke out with players and fans involved. Self was late acting to control the situation.
