WPIAL Delays Start of High School Football Season

Published

on

While WPIAL football is scheduled to still be played, it will not be starting at the usual time this year.

The WPIAL has announced that the fall sports season will not start until September 10 as opposed to the original start date of August 28.

It was also announced that the regular season would be reduced to just seven games which means that Week 0, 1 and 2 games are eliminated. With the first three games on the schedule being non-conference games, the conference schedule will remain intact, for now.

How the 2020 WPIAL football playoffs will look is still uncertain and a decision won’t be known until it’s determined that there are PIAA playoff games to be played.  The WPIAL has two different scenarios that are under consideration. Either way, the WPIAL finals are set for November 6 and 7.

Fall sports are allowed to start practicing on August 17.
