Duquesne’s roster and starting rotation has gone through some turmoil this season but that has also led to opportunities for younger players and one of them was recognized for his recent play.
Freshman guard Chad Baker has been named the Atlantic-10 Rookie of the Week for his performance last week, becoming the first Duquesne player to win this award this season. In games against Rhode Island and Saint Bonaventure, Baker averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals.

The native of the Dominican Republic was the catalyst in Duquesne’s win over Rhode Island as he poured in a game-high 19 points and shot 6-of-7 from the field, including 5-of-5 from 3-point range.
Baker was interested into Duquesne’s starting lineup four games ago, taking the place of sophomore guard Maceo Austin, who has taken a temporary leave of absence from the team and Lamar Norman, who has transferred. For the season in A-10 action, Baker is averaging 7.7 points per game.
Duquesne (4-6, 3-5) returns to the court on Wednesday when they travel to Fordham (1-7, 1-7).
