On Sunday, Ken Pomeroy released the first edition of his 2021-22 basketball team ratings, including all 358 teams in division one hoops.
Pomeroy, whose Kenpom.com rankings have become a staple in the college basketball world, has all three of the Pittsburgh- area teams, Pitt, Duquesne, and RMU, outside of the top-140 teams in the nation.
Duquesne men's and women's basketball on PSN is sponsored by Moon Golf Club.
The highest ranked team in Pennsylvania is Villanova, at No. 9. The lowest in the state? Robert Morris, down at No. 284.
Pitt – No. 145
The Panthers have re-vamped their roster this offseason and have landed some solid pieces during the process, adding on to some veteran talent leftover from last year and a promising sophomore class. However, most national media outlets, including Kenpom.com, have Pitt near the bottom of the ACC in their preseason rankings.
Duquesne – No. 181
Keith Dambrot and his staff also had a lot to work on this offseason after losing five guys from last year’s squad and bringing in a new group of freshman and transfers. Most media outlets have the Dukes finishing somewhere around ninth or tenth in the A10, and that is right where Pomeroy has them as well.
Robert Morris – No. 284
After losing star AJ Bramah and others since last year, the Colonials have not been getting much respect in pre-season rankings, including Pomeroy’s. RMU comes in at No. 284. However, as low as its ranking is, there are still three more Horizon League teams that Pomeroy thinks will be worse than RMU.
