As the Pitt hoops staff continues to search for more talent in the 2023 class, it has now reached out to another prospect that it potentially has interest in.
According to Travis Graf of Rivals, the Panthers’ staff reached out to Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn, a 6-foot-1 guard from Lafayette, Indiana, who recently de-committed from his hometown Purdue Boilermakers. In addition to Pitt, schools such as Villanova, Gonzaga, Texas, Louisville, Memphis, and more reached out to the highly touted combo guard.

Gibbs-Lawhorn began his high-school career in Lafayette, Indiana, but transferred early in his prep career to play in Utah and now plays for Montverde Academy in Florida. Despite a lower leg injury that forced him to miss his entire sophomore season, he worked his way to a top-50 ranking in the nation (No. 48) and is currently a four-star prospect on 247 Sports.
Pitt currently has two committed players in the 2023 class, as wing Marlon Barnes (OH) and guard Carlton Carrington (MD) have verbally pledged to the Panthers. Due to the amount of veterans on this year’s roster that will not have any eligibility after this season, the staff knows that it has to rebuild once again next year, and for that reason, is still actively recruiting the 2023 class.
