Pitt has signed a former WPIAL 4-star recruit and are hoping to add another one.

After signing former Peters Township and LSU 4-star safety Donovan McMillan, Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that Pitt is hosting Derrick Davis.

Davis is a former 4-star recruit from Gateway that signed with LSU. After two seasons, Davis entered the transfer portal after this past season.

Davis was a consensus Top 100 recruit that has a final five of LSU, Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia and Pitt.

Despite signing with LSU, Davis developed a solid relationship with Narduzzi and Cory Sanders. In fact, Pitt was the first school to offer Davis, which took place during his freshman season.

During his two seasons at LSU, Davis played in just six games and recorded just 47 snaps.

Davis (6’0, 200) is a tremendous athlete, capable of playing either side of the ball. PSN believes Pitt is initially looking at him at running back but that ultimately wouldn’t be determined until the spring.

Davis would be another big transfer portal addition for Pitt.

I initially thought that the new transfer rules would make the top schools even stronger and would hurt the rest of the schools, but it is not playing out that way.

It looks like it’s actually going to help the teams like Pitt that do not get to 10 recruiting classes. I actually think the new transfer rules can help Narduzzi and pitt as much as any team in the country.

Not so long ago, all the freshmen qb’s at Alabama transferred because Sabin named Tua his starting quarterback as a freshman. So these 4 & 5 star prima donnas, left to find playing time. That’s whats happening here. Playing time.

Let’s hope this young man returns home and joins the other former WPIAL stars at Pitt. What a great story if all of these former West Pa high school stars can lead Pitt to not only another ACC championship but possibly more. Also as Pitt supporters we can only hope this not only impacts the current team but future recruits. If these athletes that have returned home to play at Pitt can influence other WPIAL players on their recruiting visits to attend Pitt then the future will be even brighter. Something can be said for Pat Narduzzi and his staffs… Read more »

When I read your multiple responses after these articles I am still not sure if you are an intelligent observer with real insights or somebody trolling a Pitt article making absurd comments. I will simply trust your recent comments were from a lack of knowledge and awareness. Pat Narduzzi knows what type of system he wants to use and the type of game he wants to play. From a defensive side you can debate his success or system but the die is cast. His coaches and he are in unison. He recruits players that fit this mold and have success… Read more »
