Pitt is interested in adding a top 3-shooter to their roster next season. Basketball insider Adam Zagoria reported Friday that Syracuse guard Joe Girard has been contacted in the transfer portal by Pitt.
The senior guard both declared for the NBA Draft and put his name into the portal Friday after four years at Syracuse. According to Zagoria, Girard has been been contacted by Indiana, Tennessee, Auburn, Butler, LSU, Florida, Ohio State, Loyola Chicago, Stanford, Clemson, Nebraska and BYU.
Girard will test the NBA waters before ultimately deciding on going pro or returning to college basketball for his fifth year of eligibility. He started all but two of his 125 games in a Syracuse uniform, averaging 13.2 points and 3.6 assists in four seasons while shooting over 37% from the floor, 36% behind the three-point arc, and 86% at the free-throw line for head coach Jim Boeheim. He totaled a career-high 16.4 points per game this season and faced the Panthers twice. In Syracuse on Dec. 20, Girard scored 16 points and added five assists in a two-point loss and scored 19 in Pittsburgh on Feb. 25. Girard made three triples in each game.
He marks the ninth player Pitt has reached out to this week.
Ooof. I’m lost for words on this one.
