The ACC is officially an 18-team league after officially voting to add Stanford, California and SMU.

After not having enough league votes the first time and then postponing the scheduled meeting on Monday, the ACC Presidents voted this morning to extend conference invitations to those three schools.

A big key to this happening was the report that Stanford and California are taking reduced media rights revenue shares of around 30%, that’s according to Yahoo Sports. SMU reportedly will not take media rights revenue for their first seven years.

CBS Sports.com is reporting that the ACC is estimated to receive $72 million in additional annual media rights revenue as a result of expansion.

It’s expected that these three schools will formally join the ACC for the 2024 college football season.

The expansion out West for the ACC now gives them the opportunity on Saturday’s during college football season to showcase the league all day long.

With the new College Football Playoffs starting in 2024, this move was crucial in order for the ACC to keep up with what’s happening in the SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 conferences.

With Stanford and California gone, Washington State and Oregon State are the only remaining Pac 12 schools without a home.

So be it. Don’t really like the geographic implications but it may have been necessary if Clemson, FSU and/or UNC ultimately leave the conference high and dry. I dislike the “threats” from these 3 (and others?) … individualism over conference. My wild dream is that none of these 3 win it this year. H2P !

The agreement with ESPN has to be renegotiated. The addition of these three teams significantly increases the market seeing ACC sports,
