Bub Carrington and Carmelo Anthony before Pitt basketball's game against Florida.

Ahead of Pitt’s game against Florida on Wednesday night, the Panthers caught up with a familiar face outside of Barclays Center.

In a video posted by Pitt’s social media team, the Panthers can be seen exchanging hugs with Carmelo Anthony, the former NBA star. Bub Carrington first hugs Anthony, followed by associate head coach Milan Brown. Blake Hinson then introduced himself to Anthony. To end the video, head coach Jeff Capel dapped up Anthony.

Anthony was a ten-time NBA all star, a scoring champion, and a six-time All-NBA selection in his 19-year career. He also won an NCAA National Championship in 2003 with Syracuse.

Pitt offered Anthony’s son, Kiyan, a scholarship back on June 15, 2023 this past summer. In addition, Carrington played for Anthony’s AAU team Team Melo during his prep career. A source close to Carrington also told PSN that the Pitt freshman was invited to work out in a pros-only run by Anthony in the summer of 2022.

Pitt will take on Florida on Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. in the first round of the Preseason NIT at Barclays Center. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
