Pitt-South Carolina State Preview: Everything You Need to Know

Pitt has had a week off to prepare for its next game — on Saturday, Dec. 16 against South Carolina State.

Let’s dive into the preview for the game.

PITT’S OUTLOOK

The Panthers have had a much-needed break from game action this week. The players have wrapped up all of their final exams, and now have two more buy games before diving into conference play.

South Carolina State comes to town on Saturday as one of the worst teams in Division One basketball over the past two seasons.

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE BULLDOGS (3-8)

The Bulldogs are 0-7 on the road this season, and travel to Pittsburgh to compete against a well-rested Pitt team.

Mitchel Taylor – G – 6’3

Taylor is averaging 9.2 points per game. The point guard is shooting just 8% from three-point range.

Wilson Dubinsky – G – 6’2

In 19.1 minutes per game, Dubinsky is averaging 8.4 points per game.

TEAM STATS

The Bulldogs average 70.7 points per game, ranking No. 266 in the nation.

South Carolina State gives up 81.8 points per game on average, ranking No. 340 in the country.

The Bulldogs shoot 27% from beyond the three-point line, ranking No. 334 in the country.

METRICS

Pitt is ranked No. 48 (down 1 spot after win over Canisius) in Kenpom.com’s ratings, while SC State is ranked No. 342. The NCAA’s NET rankings have the Panthers at No. 42 and the Bulldogs at No. 326. By Kenpom’s metrics, South Carolina State is the second-worst opponent Pitt will face all year (NC A&T – 0-9 and No. 360).
