PITTSBURGH — On Tuesday night, Pitt lost to No. 11 Duke, 75-53, at the Petersen Events Center.

In the loss, Pitt’s Zack Austin had a team-high 11 points, while Bub Carrington followed with ten. The Panthers struggled to score in the first 35 minutes of the game, as Carrington missed his first ten shots, Jaland Lowe went three for ten, and Ish Leggett finished one for five.

Hear from Duke’s Jon Scheyer, as well as Pitt head coach Jeff Capel, Austin, and Guillermo Diaz-Graham, after the game in the post-game press conference below.

Pitt’s problems start with an utter lack of size and strength at the center and true forward position. Pitt needs to take, and make, 3-point shots to have a chance to win. Why, then, does Pitt’s best shooter (Blake Hinson) take only 8 shots in the game while the rest of the team takes 50 shots?

Both Carriongton and Lowe had only 2 assists each, and more shots. Obviously these guys want to shoot more than let the team play better. Pitt won’t win many games if they continue to this play

He who lives by the 3 PT shot, dies by the 3 PT shot. Tighter defense to generate offense, more movement without the ball, more driving to the hoop – force the other team into fouls

On 12/30, the Syracuse coaches showed that they learned from Pitt’s earlier losses: Play physical, intimidate, put Pitt on the free-throw line.
Duke’s coaches did the same.
After a week off, licking their wounds, I am not so sure that I like Pitt’s chances.
