Wednesday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Hurricanes-Bruins, Auburn-Alabama, Hawks-Warriors
Perfect nights on the Winning Picks are becoming more frequent than the losing nights as we go 3-0 Tuesday night. Pitt and Duquesne were able to pick up big conference wins as they covered their spreads. The Clippers were able to run away from the Lakers in the end and cover the spread. We moved to 118-85-3 on the year, over a 57% win percentage.
Though it is way too early to even remotely discuss this, but 2024 Heisman Trophy odds were released within the past week. SEC quarterbacks are currently the early season favorites as Carson Beck of Georgia and Quinn Ewers of Texas are at +900. Saying Texas is in the SEC will take some getting used to.
It is always interesting to see which bets have value on them depending on the odds. Two guys that have some value that were looking like early season Heisman favorites in 2023 are Colorado teammates Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. The two way star Hunter looked like he could be the first defensive player to win the Heisman since Charles Woodson but a lacerated kidney derailed his season. He sits at 60/1 for next year.
Deion Sanders’ son Shedeur is much more intriguing at 45/1. The younger Sanders was a one man show at Colorado for most of the season, and when you check out the Buffaloes’ stats from 2023, you’ll see why. Sanders dealt with some of the worst offensive line play in the history of college football last season. He was not only sacked a FBS most 52 times, the Buffs rushed for less than 900 yards on the season and averaged well under 3 yards a carry. No matter the evolution of the passing game in college football, those figures are almost unheard of.
If Colorado can get moderately better offensive line play, even just average play with some form of a running game, Sanders has a really good shot at winning the Heisman. The best defenses he will face next year include Kansas St, Utah and Oklahoma St, a far cry from the Oregon and other PAC12 defenses he faced in 2023.

Carolina Hurricanes at Boston Bruins (-140) O/U 6.5 7:30 PM on TNT
Two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference face off for the first time this season as the Hurricanes travel to Boston to face the Bruins. The Hurricanes used to have a much shorter trip to Boston when they were the Hartford Whalers. Some people gambling on this game weren’t even alive yet when they played in Hartford. I was 5 years old.
Carolina really needs to string some wins together to keep pace with the Metro leading New York Rangers. Even Philadelphia is still in 2nd place in the division. When will it strike midnight on the Flyers? Boston looks to widen their margain in the Atlantic with a win tonight.
I believe both teams will come out hot and this will be a high scoring, back-and-forth game. That is why the Winning Pick is the Over 6.5.

Auburn Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide (-3.5) O/U 162.5 7:30 PM on ESPN
Get your track shoes ready for the hoops edition of the Iron Bowl tonight. Though Auburn is ranked Top 10 and Alabama is not ranked, the Crimson Tide are over a 3 point favorite in this game tonight. Why is that?
Well, if you check on Ken Pomeroy’s ratings, great info if you haven’t checked it out, this is actually a Top 10 matchup with Auburn at #4 and Alabama #8. Bama has one of the best offenses in college basketball. They can score with everyone. The problem is they have struggled to stop teams on defense.
This game will be an up and down track meet tonight in Tuscaloosa. Though I do not have a pick on the spread, I really like the over in this game. Both teams can reach the 90 point mark.

Atlanta Hawks at Golden State Warriors (-6.5) O/U 235.5 10:00 PM
This will be the Warriors first game since the death of assistant coach Dejan Milojević last Wednesday. Milojević suffered a heart attack while the team was preparing in Utah and passed away shortly after. Prayers to his family and loved ones.
This is just the tip of the iceberg that has been the season for Golden State. Adjusting to a new roster, Draymond Green acting a fool, signs of aging of the Warriors stars and now the death of a coach. This is a tough situation for any coach even with the pedigree of a Steve Kerr.
This game just feels like one of the situational spots where the Warriors play one of their best games of the season. Couple that with the Hawks struggles on the defensive end this year, I like the Warriors to cover tonight.
