Pitt-Virginia Tech Preview: Everything You Need to Know

Published

on

On Saturday evening, Pitt will look to bounce back after its brutal loss to Wake Forest with a matchup against Virginia Tech.

PITT’S OUTLOOK

Pitt took the “bury the tape” approach after its game against Wake Forest, opting to not watch any of the film, take a day off, and move on (per the Jeff Capel Radio Show). Now, with five games left, the Panthers are holding on tight to a bubble spot, and each game feels like a “can’t-lose” opportunity.

Virginia Tech stands in front of the Panthers, coming off a massive win over rival Virginia by a whopping score of 75-41.

VIRGINIA TECH (15-11, 7-8 ACC)

HEAD COACH

Mike Young (Year 5)

LEADING SCORERS

Sean Pedulla – Guard – 15.2 PPG

Pedulla runs the show for the Hokies, leading the team in points and assists per game this season. He is a 40% shooter from the field and a 34% three-point shooter.

Hunter Cattoor – Guard – 14 PPG

Cattoor is the team’s most prolific outside shooter, hitting 43% of his threes this year on over 150 attempts.

Lynn Kidd – Forward – 13 PPG

Kidd is the team’s leading rebounder at 6.6 boards per game, and has been a solid offensive producer inside the paint this season. The 6-foot-10, 235-pound big is doing this in just 23.2 minutes per game.

ROAD PROBLEMS

The Hokies are just 1-7 on the road this year. They have won one road game at NC State, and fallen to Wake Forest, Florida State, Virginia, Miami, Notre Dame, Duke, and North Carolina.

Pitt is 10-5 at the Petersen Events Center this year, winning its last three home games. The last time Pitt fell at home was its 69-58 loss to Syracuse.

METRICS

Pitt is ranked No. 59 in KenPom. Com’s ratings, while Virginia Tech is ranked No. 52. The NCAA’s NET rankings have the Panthers at No. 57 and the Hokies at No. 52.

Because this is a home game against an opponent ranked within 31-75 in NET, this is a Quad 2 game for the Panthers.
