Pitt to Honor Three Players on Men’s Basketball Senior Night

Published

on

On Saturday Pitt will honor three players for its senior night celebrations before its game against NC State.

Pitt will honor Blake Hinson, Will Jeffress, and KJ Marshall for their time spent with the program, a source told Pittsburgh Sports Now. Hinson and Marshall are listed as seniors on the Panthers’ roster, but Jeffress is listed as a redshirt junior. However, the Erie, Pennsylvania native has spent four years with the program. He missed the entire 2022-23 season due to foot surgery and has come off the bench this year to average 1.6 points and 2 rebounds per game.

Hinson is the team’s undisputed leader on and off the court. He has been a dominant force on the floor this year, averaging a team-best 18.8 points per game and hitting43% of his three-point attempts. In Tuesday’s win over Florida State, Hinson set the Panthers’ program record for most three pointers in a season with 104.

Marshall is in his second stint with the program after spending time at the DII level with Mars Hill and playing JUCO ball for Garden City. He has played in 25 games in a Panther uniform across his career, scoring 12 points and dishing out three assists. Marshall has two buckets this season, a three pointer, and a mid-range step back jumper.

Hinson was a lot better than I thought he’d be. It will be interesting to see his ceiling. Jeffress should bank his Pitt degree, drop a level and get grad school paid at a Patriot league school

Seems Jeffress is leaving where does this leave them with scholarships? Is it 3 open now, that accounts for Young Mr Cummings. If Bub is a first round pick, he has to leave, which could be 4. Hope no one lures away Lowe with big NIL money, but time will tell. Is Barnes a legit power 5 player or does he move on after a RS season? Does Papa play for Pitt next year? They do not have a good record with players who sit a year staying.. Are we in for another rebuild or just add a few players.… Read more »

Success should help with attrition and I would hope Capel’s choice in kids character

It’s doesn’t say he’s leaving, he still has one year of eligibility left, due to the redshirt. I hope Bub doesn’t leave yet, I think he needs one more year to build some strength then take that leap to the NBA. I hope Lowe is at least here for 3 years, giving Capel enough time to assemble a legitimate contender. And Barnes and Papa will help, but they’re going to need a 7 foot big man, to handle the ones on other teams.

I am a Will Jeffress fan, and I hope he does not leave, but just like in football, if they walk on senior day, even with eligibility, it usually means they are gone. I also think Bub going in the first round this year would have a longer lasting benefit for recruiting than another year, but I would love for him to come back.

Jeffress I’ll forever remember that flush dunk off the inbounds. …which only worked because he never scores Nobody would ever need to guard between him and the hoop.

What a great left-handed compliment!
The play worked because Jeffress sold it.
This guy is my hero. He has taken on much bigger centers and forwards because he is a tough defender. Hail to Pitt! Hail to Will Jeffress!
