Pitt’s Offense Explodes For 13-3 Win Over Akron

After a quiet weekend down in Chapel Hill, the Pitt bats came alive this afternoon in the home opener as the Panthers defeated Akron, 13-3 in 8 innings.

Six Panthers recorded two hits or more, including Anthony LaSala and Tyler Bischke who collected three hits each. LaSala went 3-4 with an RBI as he came off the bench to replace the injured Jake Kendro. Bischke went 3-3 with 3 RBI and two walks.

Other Pitt offensive contributors this afternoon were:

*1B Luke Cantwell- 3 walks, HR (#4), 4 runs, 3 RBI.

*CF Dom Popa- 2 hits, 2 runs (extends hitting streak to 12 games).

*Freshman Jonah St. Antoline recorded first career hit (2-run double).

*RF CJ Funk- 2 hits, 2 runs.

*DH Justin Fogel- 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI.

*LF Turner Grau- 2 hits, 2 RBI, walk.

For the day, the Pitt offense banged out 16 hits and walked 9 times.

PANTHERS PITCHERS:
*Aidan Coleman: 4 innings, 1 hit, 3 runs (0 ER), 2 walks, 4 K’s.

*Ben Kovel: 2 innings, 1 hit, 0 ER, 0 walks, 2 K’s.

*Kyle Demi: 2 innings, 0 hits, 0 ER, 1 walk, 4 K’s.

Pitt improves their season record to 9-4 and return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM when they take on Youngstown State at Charles L. Cost Field.
