Tuesday’s Best ESPN BET Bets: Wagner-Howard, Penguins-Devils, Colorado St-Virginia

Another off night for the Winning Picks on Monday, finishing up 1-2. Our only win of the night was the over in Hawks/Lakers, which covered with ease. However, the under in Knicks/Warriors could not hit as New York took it to Golden State last night. The Seattle Kraken lost for the first time in their history at home to the Buffalo Sabres. We moved to 206-157-3 on the year.

One team I mentioned to look out for in the NCAA Tournament this week is McNeese St. Coached by former LSU head coach Will Wade, they have a veteran team and have some of the better offensive metrics for any mid-major in the tournament. Unfortunately, the committee gave them Gonzaga in the first round in a 5/12 matchup.

Though I am not totally throwing out McNeese advancing against the Zags, this will be a much tougher contest than let’s say Wisconsin or even the Bulldog’s WCC foe St. Mary’s. Regardless, I have already placed a free small wager, a $10 free bet, for the Cowboys of McNeese to win the Midwest region. That would win $1,000. At the very least, McNeese St will beat Gonzaga and take out Kansas/Samford in the following round to advance to the Sweet 16.

Now onto the Winning Picks!

Wagner Seahawks vs Howard Bison (-3.5) O/U 128.5 First Four 6:40 PM on truTV

The hardest part about betting the 16 vs 16 first four games is the fact that most people haven’t bet on any of these teams all year unless they are the most hardcore gambler. I’m hardcore, but not that hardcore. But there is a slight edge to one team than the other, and that falls with Howard.

The Bison got a taste of the dance last year when they lost as a 16 seed to 1 seeded Kansas in the opening round. Either Howard or Wagner has ever won a NCAA Tournament game, but that will change after tonight. The Bison should have too much firepower for a Seahawk roster that likes to play it slow and doesn’t go very deep. Howard wins and covers by double digits in Dayton.

Pittsburgh Penguins at New Jersey Devils (-110) O/U 6.5 7:00 PM on SportsNet Pittsburgh

It would be very funny if the Penguins went on a run at the end of the season to make their way into the playoffs. It’s not going to happen to be honest, but it would be ironic after they were sellers at the deadline for the first time in 20 years.

The Devils are not in a much better place than the Pens are. This was supposed to be a season where they took their next step, but unfortunately, they took a major step back and even fired their head coach. As for this matchup tonight, I expect a low scoring game and the Penguins to get a win, which would be their first road win since in Vancouver in late February, but the Winning Pick is the under.

Under 6.5 Covers, Pittsburgh Penguins 2 New Jersey Devils 1

Colorado St Rams (-2.5) vs Virginia Cavaliers O/U 121.5 First Four 9:10 PM on truTV

Let’s be honest, Pitt should’ve gotten in the tournament over Virginia. It should be the Panthers playing the Rams instead of the Cavaliers. But here we are, and Virginia really does suck and has had trouble scoring for the last half of the season. There is one looming stat though that scares me about picking against them.

Since 2019, the Mountain West, excluding San Diego St, is 0-11 in the NCAA Tournament. And Colorado St suffered a loss during the streak, losing to Michigan by double digits in 2022. But speaking of 2019, Virginia hasn’t won a tourney game since that year when they won the National Championship. Something has to give, and I believe Colorado St ends the drought for the rest of the Mountain West and wins and covers an ugly game versus Virginia.
