Pitt Reaches Out to Former WPIAL Star, Kentucky Transfer Adou Thiero

Pitt continues to actively recruit the transfer portal and piece together its roster for the 2024-25 season.

The latest player to hear from the Panthers is certainly a familiar name around the Steel City. Pittsburgh Sports Now can confirm that the Pitt staff has contacted Adou Thiero, who recently entered the portal on Thursday after spending two seasons at Kentucky. This contact was first reported by Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Check out Carter’s story here.

Thiero starred for Quaker Valley in high school in Western PA before joining John Calipari’s squad in Lexington.

Thiero, at 6-foot-8, 222 pounds, averaged 7.2 points and five rebounds per game while shooting 49% from the field and hitting 7 of his 22 three-point tries this year. He scored 181 points and grabbed 124 rebounds this year for the Wildcats.

Thiero’s best game of the year came against No. 1 Kansas in the beginning of the season. Thiero shined for the Wildcats, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. He scored in double figures four more times throughout the season for Kentucky. In Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament loss to Oakland, Thiero played seven minutes, going 1 for 3 from the field for two points at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel offered Thiero back in March of 2022, during his senior season. He visited Pitt on April 18, 2022 while he was a senior in high school.
