Pitt Wrestling Lands Buffalo transfer and Norwin Alum, Chase Kranitz

Pitt wrestling added a new member to their roster for next season on Thursday, as Buffalo transfer and Norwin alum Chase Kranitz committed to the program.

Kranitz spent the past two seasons at Buffalo, redshirting his first season and finishing 14-9 at 174 pounds. He moved up to 184 pounds and started for Buffalo this past season, ending with a record of 26-14 and a Third Place Finish at the MAC Championships.

He is a native of western Pennsylvania, wrestling for Norwin High School in Irwin from 2018-22. He accrued 118 wins to 33 losses over his four seasons wrestling in high school, starting out at 138/145 pounds as a freshman and ending at 160 pounds as a senior.

Kranitz only participated in the PIAA Championships once as a junior in 2021, finishing in fifth place, while getting to third place twice at the WPIAL Championships as sophomore in 2020 and a senior in 2022.

He is the first transfer to join Pitt this offseason and he will have three years of eligibility remaining. Redshirt senior Reece Heller will start for Pitt wrestling at 184 pounds next season, but Kranitz has a chance to earn a starting spot in 2025.

Kranitz is one of many Buffalo wrestlers who departed from the program this offseason after the firing of head coach John Stutzman.
