PITTSBURGH — When players, coaches and media gathered Wednesday afternoon on the South Side to watch the Pitt Blue-Gold Spring Game draft unfold, it was the Gold squad that scooped up wide receiver Kenny Johnson with the first overall pick.
It came as no surprise to the Blue team that Johnson was going to get selected by their counterparts and it is also a testament to the work and talent that Johnson beholds.
The rising sophomore saw his role increase in the offense during his freshman campaign where he grabbed 15 receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. He also turned in 72 rushing yards on 10 attempts, along with a 100-yard kickoff return against North Carolina.
With spring practice coming to a close and one last opportunity to get on the field in Pitt’s Spring Game on April 13, Johnson details his work and what it was like receiving the No. 1 overall selection.
