Former Pitt defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman has another obstacle to overcome in his goal of making an NFL roster.
The Minnesota Vikings announced on Monday that per NFL procedures, they’ve moved Twyman from their active roster to their reserve/non-football injury list and must first subject him to waivers. Should he clear waivers, he will revert to the Vikings reserve/NFL list.
All of this is due to the unfortunate incident Twyman was involved in last month in his hometown of Washington DC. The Vikings sixth-round draft pick was shot four times while visiting family members back on June 22. At the time of the shooting, both the Vikings and Twyman’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, stated that he was expected to make a full recovery and suffered no real serious injuries, broken bones or ligament damage.
“They are all flesh wounds, superficial wounds. He walked himself into the hospital. He was an innocent bystander in a car– wrong place, wrong time,” said Rosenhaus.
Twyman signed his four-year rookie contract in May after being selected by the Vikings following a career at Pitt in which he was voted first team All-ACC in 2019. Twyman was one of the many players throughout college football that decided to opt out of the 2020 season.
Steelers should at least kick the tires on Twyman. They have zero depth on D-Line after starters.
Seems like there is more to this doesnt it?
Like what do they mean – wrong place wrong time?
Seems more to being waived – Why would minny waive him now? They thought enough of him to draft him. Let him rehab his injuries and if he sucks in camp, cut him. Why now?
This is sooooo sad! He was a top 3 round pick if he would have come back to Pitt last year. Really bad advice! Hope he works his tail off and makes it in the NFL though. H2P
Tough call. I think it will workout for him in the end. Will he clear waivers? 60 players (3 DTs) taken after him. Why not trade up?
