Pitt’s running back room had a light day of practice during Tuesday’s media window, focusing on form in non-contact and simulated contact drills, many of which did not include a football.
The group has rounded into form after a rough start to the season, and their off week seemed to continue with the easy day of practice.
After a brief warm up period with the quarterbacks, they shifted to route running, practicing evading defenders and getting out into the flats.
They mimed receiving handoffs and hitting the hole, as well as a brief drill where they “pushed the pile” while paired up against their teammates.
230 lb Carter and 230 pound Sibley should be getting 80% of the carriers. They physically match the Pitt smash mouth running game started by Connors, then continued by Ollision and his counterpart, two years ago. I believe Pitt’s OL this year is designed for straight ahead gap blocking, they are not a quick line to get out in front of sweeps or other pulling plays off tackle (always no yard gain or loss).
