Gavin Bartholomew enrolled at Pitt just under a year ago, and with Lucas Krull finally expected to serve as the feature tight end in Pitt’s offense, it wouldn’t have been surprising if Bartholomew hadn’t made a big impact as a first-year player.
Instead, he formed a potent one-two punch with Krull and finished as Pitt’s fifth-leading receiver as a true freshman and has been named a second team freshman All-American by The Athletic.
Bartholomew caught 27 balls for 317 yards and four touchdowns this season and served as a capable pass blocker when his number was called upon. With another full offseason, he should be expected to make another leap between his freshman and sophomore seasons — even with Kenny Pickett out of the picture.
With Krull having played his last down with Pitt this season, racking up 37 catches for 443 yards and six touchdowns himself, Bartholomew should hold an even larger role in Pitt’s offense as a security blanket for the next quarterback.
Keep in mind that Bartholomew was a player that was committed to attend Buffalo before Tim Salem was able to get him flipped to Pitt.
He was their best tight end this season hands down.
Yes he was! Great find in recruiting. H2P!!!
Congrats Bart! H2P!!!
Well Deserved!
What a pleasant surprised he was. If he continues to get better he will be an all American sooner than later.
This team is loaded with young weapons on offense, If the offensive line can come together next year then the sky is the limit for this offense.
Since Pitt can’t seem to ever land 5-star, and only occasionally 4-star, recruits, they need to develop an effective formula for landing very wrongly rated 2-star recruits like Gavin Bartholomew.
Bartholomew was a consensus 3-star recruit.
