It’s becoming quite obvious that Heather Lyke really wants to hire Rhode Island’s Dan Hurley.
How much does Pitt want Hurley?
If a report by Jon Rothstein of FanRags is accurate, Pitt has offered Hurley a contract that would make him one of the highest paid coaches in school history.
Rothstein reported on Tuesday that Pitt has offered Hurley a contract worth more than $3 million dollars per year to take over for Kevin Stallings and that both Connecticut and Rhode Island are still in play.
Sources in Rhode Island have indicated that Hurley was scheduled to be meeting with officials from Rhode Island on Tuesday.
Jeff Goodman from ESPN told PSN that if UConn came close to matching the offer from Pitt, that Hurley would most likely accept the offer from UConn.
This reported financial offer from Pitt is a big deal considering this package to Hurley would be in the same neighborhood or exceed Jamie Dixon’s final contract with the Panthers. In 2014, Pitt paid Dixon $3.2 million per season.
The $3.2 million is a big number considering that annual salary would likely be the same or would be more than what football coach Pat Narduzzi makes per season. Narduzzi made $1.83 million in 2016, the last year for which Pitt has submitted federal income disclosure paperwork. Narduzzi signed a new contract in December.
