Last week, Pittsburgh Sports Now broke down Pitt’s recruiting wins and losses. Now, let’s take a look at where those battles were taking place for the Panthers in the Class of 2019.
For Pitt, the largest single battleground was Florida, where Pitt sent out 92 scholarship offers, more than the next three most-offered states combined.

Those three states were Ohio (31 offers), Pennsylvania (28 offers) and Georgia (24 offers). Pitt also offered 20 players from New Jersey, 14 from Michigan, 12 from Maryland and nine from California.
Here’s a map of how heavily papered each state was by the Pitt coaching staffs.

Now, you can compare that with the 18 players that the Panthers have signed and one outstanding commit, and some trends begin to emerge.
Pitt over-performed in South Carolina, Maryland and New Jersey, while failing to land a single recruit out of the 31 players offered in Ohio and 24 in Georgia. Michigan, Virginia and North Carolina were also notable 0-fers for the Panthers.
Pitt did well enough in Pennsylvania, despite just landing one WPIAL recruit in Aliquippa wide receiver Will Gipson. Pitt goy Kyi Wright from Farrell in Mercer county and two players: Williamsport’s Bam Brima and Reading Catholic’s Brandon George, from the center part of the state.
So, on a percentage basis, where did Pitt do best? It probably isn’t where you’d expect. The Panthers did get a haul out of Florida, with six signees. But they offered so many to get those six. Where were the Pitt coaches the most efficient? Canada, where they offered one player and landed one player. Pitt also did well on a percentage basis in South Carolina (2 of 3), and New York and West Virginia (1 of 3).
They have to do better in Western Pa. or this program will never get where we want it to be. 0-10 against PS. Lost great players to ND. Players going to WVU are a shame.
Just wasn’t a very deep year in the WPIAL. Only have six P5 commits right now. Pitt will probably get one more and be the only team with two.
Thank you for the response.
