Belle Vernon offensive tackle Blake Zubovic is a player that Pitt fans have been waiting and wondering if he’d eventually commit to the Panthers.

While on a visit with his family to the Pitt football facility he decided it was time to formally announce his decision.

“My whole entire family went with me today. I think Coach Narduzzi knew it was coming because they asked me what I wanted to see on the visit and I never really responded,” said Zubovic.

“I got there and talked to Coach Pete for awhile about some general stuff. Then I went into Coach Narduzzi’s office. We were just talking and catching up. He was talking to my sisters because it was the first time he met them. Then I just told him.”

“He just jumped up and he hugged me and my whole family. That was a really cool moment. We talked some more and then I signed the football. As soon as we left his office, he got out and yelled “We got one”. The entire coaching staff jumped up and started cheering. That was a really special moment.”

I then asked the newest Panther when did he know that he was going to join Pitt.

“Probably on Monday. I came home from vacation and was planning a visit to Michigan State. I then just started thinking, I feel like home at Pitt. Every school that I visited I would then compare it to Pitt. I didn’t see the point in making more visits. I just had a gut feeling. I’ve been a Pitt fan my whole life and I didn’t need to take anymore visits. I got the offer I wanted the most so that’s what mattered to me,” said Zubovic.

The Belle Vernon product is also the third WPIAL player to commit to Pitt with the likelihood of more on the way. Staying home, playing with locals kids for the local team was also a factor.

“That was huge for me. I almost feel like it’s a WPIAL kid’s duty to play for Pitt. It’s just right.”
