ACC Champs: Pitt Volleyball Clinches Share of Conference Crown

Published

on

Pitt volleyball knocked off Florida State, three sets to one on Friday night, and secured at least a share of the ACC title for the second consecutive season.

The Panthers (27-1, 15-1 ACC) won the first two sets against the Seminoles (17-9, 13-3 ACC), 25-22 and 25-21. Florida State won the third set, 25-20 before the Panthers rolled, 25-18 in the final frame.

Junior right side Nika Markovic led the Panthers with 18 kills. She also had 14 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Lund had 13 kills and 13 digs. Chinaza Ndee and Layne Van Buskirk each had 10 kills.

Redshir junior outside Stephanie Williams also had 14 digs, tying Markovic for the team lead. Setter Kamalani Akeo had 30 assists.

The Panthers have two regular-season matches remaining. They’ll visit Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m. and host Georgia Tech at Petersen Events Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Florida State, Louisville and Syracuse all have three conference losses. One more win for the Panthers would clinch an outright league championship. Pitt split the title with Louisville in 2017.
