Pitt First Power Five Offer for Georgia TE Carter Boatwright

Normally, it’s not a good thing when an adult makes a kid tear up but that’s not the case with Carter Boatwright.

Boatwright (6’5” 225) got the call from Tim Salem that he’d earned a scholarship from Pitt, his first Power Five offer.

Tonight, Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up briefly with Boatwright (Moultrie, Georgia) to get his reaction to the big news from Pitt, a school he’s only been talking to for the last couple weeks.

“I was riding in my car getting something to eat and I got a call from Coach Salem,” said Boatwright. “We talked a little and then he asked me if I had any Power Five offers? I said, “No sir”’and he replied, well you do now because Pitt is offering you a scholarship.”

”When he said that I started to tear up because this is a moment I’ve been working for my entire life and it finally happened. First person I called was my dad and he was very happy for me. He told me congratulations because you worked hard for it but that I have to keep working.”

Boatwright tells me that prior to the conclusion of his spring practices, Pitt sent a coach down to film his workout and practice. After reviewing that and his game film, Salem and Pat Narduzzi decided to offer.

Coaches like the weight that Boatwright has added this off-season plus the fact that he’s kept his quickness. With his huge 6’5” frame, he’s your prototype tight end that can get down the field and make plays.

While he hasn’t arranged any visits yet, he tells me that Pitt is a place that he obviously wants to come up and visit.
