Mike’d Up: Jordan Addison Bolting Pitt for USC, NIL, Impact on Pitt

Published

on

With shocking reports of Jordan Addison leaving Pitt for USC, Mike Asti and Mike Vukovcan get Mike’d Up to talk what this means for college football and the state of the Pitt program.

Is there any way to calm the transfer portal down with the NIL influence? What can programs like Pitt do to compete moving forward?

Is he in the Portal or No? This Seems like a Hype train more than Reality. As the Media is enjoying this as the FanBase is trying to get the Truth revealed.

Yellen shows in 247Sports Transfer Portal site, Addison does not.

The deadline for the player to declare their intent to their school was Sunday at midnight, however, the schools have a 48 hour window from the declaration of intent to finalize the paperwork, so he may not officially appear in the portal until Tuesday night.

Supreme court ruled that NIL money is not under the jurisdiction of the college football organization. It is independent personal licensing. They cannot use school mascot, trademark, uniforms, etc. in the ads. They get by with close color resemblance but not the trademark of the school. It is just a way for boosters to pay players. In the case of Lincoln Riley and Jordan Addison, it is a way for them to cheat. It is disappointing that Addison is a cheat. He could have made 50 million or more honestly. Instead, he would rather cheat the system to get money.… Read more »

If by cheating you mean he listened to an offer before being in the portal then yes, but he’s just playing the game that’s dealt. He’s the first domino but the rest will fall quickly, watch how quickly NCAA basketball goes downhill. Free agency is here and for 99% of schools and coaches they are now just Triple A teams for the big boys.

Addison discussing NIL deals which involve transferring is fair, legal and reasonable IF he is in the portal. Instead, Addison decided to cheat and discuss transferring with USC and/or their associates outside of the rules.
In today’s world there is no consequences for rule breaking and law breaking. In mind mind, Addison is simply a cheat. He could make tens of millions legitimately. Instead, he decided to make his money by breaking rules. He has no character or loyalty.

He will still be making many millions in the NFL, especially with the WR suddenly being valued through the roof (Eagles just gave a ton of guaranteed money to Brown). Top 10 pick

Would you even care. If he wasn’t good. What about the your quarterbacks who were working hard for a shot then your coach brought in USC’s quarterback to start.

Think I remember reading somewhere that a school is allowed a certain amount of time (2-3 days?) to entering a players name in the portal…I’m guessing that he entered the portal but it hasn’t be made public as of yet.

There has to be some rule in place for the future. Would going back to sitting a year prevent some of this? Maybe limiting the portal to before spring practice too? I don’t like putting restrictions on the players, but this is like free agency, WITHOUT any contracts. At least pros sign contracts that they are somewhat bound by.

Wait till Harvard and their Endowment/Alumni get in on this, or Army/Navy cut into the US Fiscal Spending Defense spending ($1.1B) and go after NIL athletes.

ARMY could have a great ‘Defense’ with $1.1B budget.

This is the result of colleges and universities using slave labor for the last 50-years. The top 25 programs will indiscriminately raid all other programs. It will have the dual effect of strengthening their programs and weakening all others. There might be a solution but I don’t see it. Possibly cancelling non-league games with egregious offenders but this would require a united front. But there will always be an opportunistic gadfly willing to get a million dollar payday.

Ice-T “Don’t Hate the Playa” …. He accepted an Offer from PITT and played two excellent Seasons here. If the GAME allowed him to go to NFL before 3-Seasons do you think he would be in the NCAA system this Fall? He sees an Opportunity to Capitalize on NIL larger Pool of Cash, larger Market (exposure), and a different QB-Coach, etc. The ‘angry mob’ cried for NCAA athletes to get additional Compensation, now they are, awesome! If the Universities are using Revenue from one or two Clubs to subsidize other Sporting Teams that are not Profitable (or even Break-Even) what… Read more »
