Bad Shooting Dooms Dukes Against New Mexico State, 73-60

The Duquesne Dukes (7-3) fell to the New Mexico State Aggies 73-60, their second straight home loss.

Futility beyond the arc proved costly for the Dukes, who went 4-for-25 on three-point attempts and shot just 32.7 percent from the field.

When the game was close, the Dukes wasted possessions with overzealous three-point attempts. As the game snowballed out of reach, their shooting remained too cold to mount a comeback.

NMSU out-rebounded Duquesne 41-34: despite 6-foot-9 freshman forward Halil Barre being cleared to play for the first time following a knee injury, he didn’t see the court.

Duquesne leapt out to an 8-2 lead to open, but the Aggies reeled them back in, capping a 9-2 run with a Kyle Feit three-pointer to make it 11-10.

Dukes’ forward Tre Williams tied the game at 19 with a hook shot out of the U8 media timeout, but the Aggies went on an 11-4 run in the final 4:50 to take a 35-27 lead into the break.

Jimmy Clark III, who led Duquesne with 16 points, nailed a three-pointer out of the half to pull the Dukes within five. The Aggies responded with an 11-2 run that made it 46-32, then put on cruise control, as Duquesne never closed the deficit to less than nine.

Aggies forward and leading scorer Issa Muhammad fouled out with three minutes to play, but the Dukes couldn’t make anything of it.

Duquesne’s next game is at home against DePaul, starting at 7pm on Wednesday, December 14.

Good! Bunch of Duquesne Fans at the Pitt-Sacred Heart game rooting their brains out for Sacred Heart like the non athletic nerds they were. Your team has not been relevant since Saturday Night Fever was out and Gerald Ford was President.

Lol nothing like a grown man throwing shots behind his key board. Big talk from a fan of a team that hasn’t won more than 6 conference games since 2016. Come talk to me when Pitt is out of the ACC basement

Lets be real. Since 1974 the Duquesne Men’s basketball team record is 590-787. They are 200 games under .500. That is a lot of basement dwelling. The worst part is they were awful in the ECAC, Eastern 8 and now the Atlantic 10 all mid major conferences. In 1977 when they appeared in their last tournament they lost to VMI. Imagine that.
