2024 Pitt Commit Jahsear Whittington Announces Visit to Rutgers

Pitt football defensive tackle Jahsear Whittington.

It’s Junior Day at Rutgers this Sunday, and Jahsear Whittington will be in New Brunswick, New Jersey for the afternoon.

Whittington, a 2024 four-star Pitt defensive lineman commit, announced via Twitter that he will be making the quick trek from his native Philadelphia to Rutgers’ campus for a day with Rutgers’ head coach Greg Schiano.

It’s very likely that Whittington will be making the trip with a few of his Imhotep Charter teammates, which includes four-star Pitt cornerback target Kenny Woseley.

It’s not ideal news, but it’s also not all that concerning. Whittington, who committed to Pitt way back in April, serving as the first verbal commitment in the class of 2024, has very vocally expressed his excitement in eventually arriving at Pitt.

He’s taken an active role in serving as a lead recruiter for Pitt’s class of 2024.

Whittington has made a handful of visits to Pittsburgh since his very first back in April — just before his commitment. He made it out for a camp in June, and he attended both the West Virginia and Virginia Tech games in the fall.

PSN last caught up with Whittington after the PIAA Class-5A championship, a hard-fought loss for Whittington and Imhotep, and he expressed his desire to improve this offseason.

“I get more time to prep before I get to Pitt,” Whittington said. “I’ve gotta stay strong, just worry about the off-season, just working to perfect my craft and be better… going forward, just focus on school and getting better over the off-season.”

Whittington is coming off a strong junior season in which he recorded over 40 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, recovered three fumbles and earned second consecutive All-State honors.

The 6-foot-2, 255-pound defensive lineman is the prototypical “undersized” dynamo. He’s already formed a strong bond with defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, too.

Pitt has a while to go before he’s able to sign, but there’s a strong relationship already between Whittington and Pitt — and the fans.

Whittington and four-star wide receiver DayDay Farmer (Cocoa, Florida) have provided a very strong foundation for Pitt’s class of 2024.

I have made this observation several times but will share this thought again. Imhotep Charter plays in the PIAA Section 12. Section 12 consist of the Philadelphia Charter schools such as Imhotep Charter. It also consist of the Catholic diocese and Catholic Prep schools. This is where the best football in the Southeastern part of Pa is played. Many recruits from Section 12 are part of some of the most successful college program in the country. My point is that Pitt needs to flood this area with resources to convince these young men that Pitt provides the best opportunity for… Read more »

Ohio State owns Philly (St. Joseph’s) with Harrison and McCord.
Penn State signed Keon Wylie and made the cut for Omillio Agard
Texas A&M also crushes the Philly area.

Here is the point of my comments… I broke down the PA top 50 recruits for the 2021-22-23 recruiting cycle. This is 150 total recruits. The PIAA Section 12 produced 39 total of that 150 recruits. 34 came from only six schools. Pitt has only secured one athlete on their current roster in McIntyre from Imhotep Charter and only one commit in the 2024 class. I am just thinking out loud when I say Pitt should emphasize Philadelphia’s section 12. The quality of Pitt’s program, the opportunity to go from a three star to the NFL. This is just to… Read more »

If he commits to Pitt on signing day, will you admit that you were wrong?

“there coach is horrible” and “highest bitters’? I’ll ignore the pitt graduate grammar and point to 11 win seasons to refute the “horrible”. If CJF is so bad what does that make the duzzinator?

Nostradamus is at it again with his in-love-with-himself predictions. Did you ever think about why you consistently receive so many negative votes on this board?! What a douche.
