Pitt head coach Jeff Capel announced Thursday night on his radio show, The Jeff Capel Radio Show, that walk-on senior forward Aidan Fisch is on scholarship.

Fisch is currently in his third season with the Panthers on the roster. He originally started as a manager in 2018-19 helping out the team, before joining the Panthers as a walk-on starting in the 2020-21 season.

Fisch grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of Murrysville, Pa. and played for the local high school, Franklin Regional. His family had season tickets for Pitt basketball and he became a Pitt super fan from day one, attending almost a 100 home games over his childhood.

Capel said on his radio show that he chose to surprise the team recently with the news after a team meeting.

With Fisch now a scholarship player, Pitt now has 10 scholarship players that can play on this season’s team. Junior guard KJ Marshall and first-year forward Vason Stevenson are the only two walk-ons on this team.

Fisch only played in six total games and seven minutes the previous two seasons, scoring zero points. He has played in six games this season, most recently against Sacred Heart at home on Dec. 10. Fisch also scored his first basket against Farleigh Dickinson on Nov. 22.

I knew that Coach had a scholarship available, so awarding it to a hardworking player is a great gesture.
