Pitt has Chance to Tie for First in ACC on Tuesday Against Louisville

Published

on

On Saturday, both Clemson and Virginia lost in ACC matchups, helping Pitt move into second place in the league while the Panthers have the weekend off.

No. 20 Clemson — who came in as the No. 1 team in the ACC standings — lost to No. 23 Miami at home, dropping its record to 10-3 in the ACC. The Tigers own the tiebreaker over Pitt this season, after beating the Panthers 75-74 back on Jan. 7.

No. 6 Virginia fell to Virginia Tech by a score of 74-68, dropping to 17-4 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

Pitt currently sits at 9-3 in conference play, with one win over Virginia and a loss to Clemson on the year. Because Clemson has the week off (next game: Saturday Feb. 11), Pitt has a chance to tie for the best record in the conference with a win over Louisville on Tuesday. *Clemson owns the tiebreaker as it beat Pitt earlier in the season. The two will not meet again, unless it is in the ACC Tournament.

Pitt has never won the ACC regular season title since joining the conference in 2013.

Pitt and Louisville will face off at 7 p.m. est on Tuesday. The game will be televised on ACC Network.

Who would win the conference if it were a 3 way tie between Pitt, Clemson, and Virginia? What is the tiebreaker if multiple teams tie?

not sure if my interpretation is correct but .. 1st tiebreaker is head-to-head against tied teams. so, if clemson beats uva on 28th, they would be #1 with a 2-0 record and I think Pitt would be #2 seed at 1-1 due to having the 1st tiebreaker against UVA at 0-2. if UVA beats clemson, we all would be 1-1 or .500 against other tiebreaker #1 teams and would have to go to tiebreaker #2. here it gets fuzzy to me .. the tiebreaker is called “Nth place win percentage”. I think it means that since the top 3 are… Read more »

wow .. who would have thought. in any case, UNC didn’t help us out with Duke. If they don’t turn it around, wins against UNC aren’t going to count very highly. They won’t make the tourney without a nice run to finish the season and ACC tourney.

Please tell me PSN is writing an article about Jim Boeheim playing the victim and accusing Pitt of “buying” our team. Seriously Jim? Even if it is true, as if Syracuse isn’t or can’t play that game? Do we rwally have more resources than the big bad “blue blood” Syracuse? Retire already.

we really need to spank them at the Pete. also, maybe fans can bring some canned goods or other donations for the impoverished ‘cuse players.

he should be fined by the ACC. this looks bad for the conference, not just pitt, miami and wake.

That’s a great idea! Send that to the Zoo. “Hey Judah, we’ll pay you $20,001″* signs, etc. Lol.

*Boeheim said none of his players make more than $20k

From Bandin Knights twitter… “@PeteThamel this sounds like sour grapes. Next time ask @therealboeheim how many teams he bought before NIL was legal. Don’t throw stones in a glass house. Remember you’ve been coaching a lot of years and a lot of us know who got paid!!!!”
