ACC News and Notes: Mohamed Diarra Commits to NC State, Noah Thomassson to Visit Pitt, Notre Dame, Wake Forest

PITTSBURGH – NC State, Pitt, Notre Dame, and Wake Forest are grabbing headlines throughout the ACC as the Wolfpack add a transfer, Noah Thomasson to visit Pitt, Notre Dame offered a top high school player, and Wake Forest added action to its non-conference slate.

NC State Lands Transfer Forward Mohamed Diarra

According to Ethan McDowell of On3, junior Mohamed Diarra has committed to NC State. Diarra averaged 3.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 25 games as a junior at Missouri. The 6-foot-10 forward from Montreuil, France, played two seasons at Garden City Community College before joining the program. He started six games down the stretch and grabbed 32 offensive rebounds over the year, opting to transfer once again. Diarra has two years of eligibility remaining.

Pitt in Niagara Transfer Noah Thomasson’s Top Five

Noah Thomasson has narrowed his list of potential programs to five. Thomasson announced he is down to Pitt, Penn State, St. John’s, Georgia, and San Francisco. He will visit all five schools before making an official decision. The unanimous All-MAAC First Team selection scored 19.7 points per game as one of the best offensive players in the country. Thomasson will visit the Panthers from May 5-6 for his last scheduled meeting. 

Pitt added High Point’s Zack Austin and Rhode Island’s Ishmael Leggett as transfer targets. The Panthers won two games in the NCAA Tournament and will lose five seniors to graduation this week. Jeff Capel has two scholarships remaining for the 2023-24 campaign. 

Notre Dame Offers 2024 Paul Vi (VA) Forward Garrett Sundra

High School forward Garrett Sundra has received an offer from Notre Dame, he announced on Monday. Sundra is a four-star recruit by 247Sports and has also been offered by Maryland, Penn State, Miami, Rhode Island and Virginia Tech. He is a 6-foot-10, 215-pound power forward from Fairfax, Virginia, and ranked No. 86 in the country.

Notre Dame and Mike Brey parted ways after 23 years. Former Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry left to become the next Fighting Irish lead man following an NCAA Tournament win. Schrewsberry recruited Sundra while at Penn State, and new head coach Mike Rhoades maintained PSU’s offer to the young forward.

Wake Forest to Take Part in 2023 Cayman Islands Classic

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are going to the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands Classic announced its representatives Monday. Wake Forest joins Drake, Marshall, Ole Miss, LMU, Stephen F. Austin and Utah State in the tournament. The fifth edition of the classic runs from Nov. 19-21.
