The Pitt coaching staff worked hard to land Nick Marsh, but he’s ultimately heading back to where he was committed once before.
Marsh — a 6-foot-3, 200-pound four-star wide receiver from River Rouge High in River Rouge, Michigan — committed to Michigan State over Pitt, Penn State, Oregon and Kansas Friday evening at his high school in River Rouge, Michigan.

With nearly 40 offers, Marsh was a highly sought-after recruit in the class of 2024, one of the top wide receivers in the class as a whole, and Pitt’s coaching staff worked hard to land him. But it ultimately was Michigan State that re-secured his commitment.
Marsh took his first official visit to Pitt from June 2-4, before heading off to Penn State, Kansas and Michigan State, and while Pitt rolled out the red carpet and made him feel like a top-tier priority in the class, he went a different direction.
247Sports rates Marsh as the 99th-ranked recruit in the class (16th-ranked wide receiver and the third-ranked recruit from Michigan) while Rivals rates him as the 54th-ranked recruit in the class (11th-ranked wide receiver and third-ranked recruit from Michigan).
On3 rates Marsh as the 120th-ranked recruit in the class (21st-ranked wide receiver and the third-ranked recruit from Michigan).
It’s a tough blow to lose out on Marsh, but it’s not all that unexpected as Pitt was seemingly in the fringes throughout his entire recruiting process. It’s not unfamiliar to Pitt’s pursuit of Hykeem Williams in the class of 2024.
Pitt currently holds a commitment from four-star DayDay Farmer and three-star Cameron Monteiro, and Marsh would be an elite pairing in the class of 2024. The coaching staff is prioritizing four-star Zy’Marion Lang — who visited June 22-24.
A recruiting class of Farmer, Lang and Monteiro would be a very solid addition to Pitt’s roster going forward.
