Pitt wrestling’s recruiting class for 2019 is growing in both quantity and quality. Jared McGill, a senior at Chestnut Ridge now joins the already impressive Ryan Sullivan and Austin Cooley. While still early, Keith Gavin’s first full recruiting class is shaping up to be pretty remarkable.
“I believe that coach Gavin is doing amazing things to the program already. He has made a lot of changes and he likes to win. I believe that Pittsburgh is the City of Champions and that’s where I want to be.”

McGill initially chose to compete at West Point, but due to the large obligation outside of wrestling at Army, and wanting to pursue more athletic related goals, McGill reconsidered. “I felt like I was more at home when I visited Pitt.”

Looking to win his first state title as a senior, McGill has placed 6th, 4th, and 3rd at Hershey competing at 160 and 170 pounds. However this year, FloWrestling has McGill ranked 9th at 182. It appears he will slot in nicely as a 174 pounder in college. In addition to placing three times at the PIAA tournament, McGill is also a FloNationals finalist and two-time NHSCA All American. He is 120-16 in his career including 66-2 in bonus point matches.
“My goal is for the team to be National Champions and for myself to be a National Champion as well. I think it’s a great school and I can’t wait to see how the guys do this year! H2P!”
Spreading Them Out
Looking at the projected weights for the 2018 and 2019 classes, Pitt is setting up nicely for the future.
