Pitt Remains in Steady Contact With Gateway 2022 DB Patrick Body

Gateway High School is a program that Pitt has not historically enjoyed a ton of success recruiting.

Last season, the Pitt staff did a solid job recruiting and staying in the mix for 4-star safety Derrick Davis before he eventually took his talents to SEC. Pitt has not signed a player from Gateway during the Pat Narduzzi era and the last two Gator players to play for Pitt were Class of 2013 member tight end Jaymar Parrish and 2008 signee linebacker Shayne Hale.

Pitt is back again recruiting at Gateway and this year it’s for 2022 3-star defensive back Patrick Body.

Back in September, Body became the first WPIAL player in the Class of 2022 to receive and offer from Pitt and since then, Cory Sanders and Narduzzi have remained in steady contact with the versatile defensive back as they hope to make him the latest WPIAL star to stay home and play at Pitt.

Along with Pitt, the 6-foot-2, 175 defensive back also holds offers from West Virginia, Cincinnati, Akron, Ball State, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Kent State, UMass, Old Dominion, Temple, Toledo and William & Mary.

“I’ve also been talking to a few new schools (Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan State and Virginia) recently but I do believe that the coronavirus has really messed things up in terms of being able to take visits and coaches coming to see players,” said Body. “It’s been disappointing not being able to take trips and going to see colleges whenever you start getting offers.”

“Over the last couple months, I probably talk to Coach Narduzzi and Coach Sanders like at least once a week. They make sure to touch base with me to see how I’m doing, make sure I’m doing good in school and always make sure to send me stuff about the school. The communication and interest I’ve gotten from Pitt means a lot because I know that there’s a lot of other people they can be in touch with and I’m still one of them.”

During this time, Body tells PSN that he’s mostly been in touch with Sanders, which has allowed him the opportunity to get to know him a lot better, which is important considering he could eventually become his positions coach.

“Coach Sanders is really a cool dude,” said Body. “I feel like you can really be yourself around him and don’t have to change. You can relate well with him and he acts like you. Pitt tells me that they like me at cornerback but they also know that I can also play safety too. They like that about me so we’ll have to see how that plays out.”

As far as a future timeline to make his college decision, Body tells PSN that he wants to make sure that he doesn’t rush a decision and wants to be 100% sure about his decision. Ideally, he’d like for recruiting to fully open up so that he’d have the opportunity to visit other campuses.

I bet Shane Hall would have made more of an impact than Shane Hale.

or even Shayne Hale. If you’re going to correct them, don’t make yourself look stupid in the process…
