Pitt 3-Star OL Target Zachary Aamland Commits to Illinois

Published

on

Despite Pitt seemingly earning top contender status for three-star offensive tackle Zachary Aamland, his three-way decision between Pitt, West Virginia and Illinois ended with the Illini on top.

Aamland (a 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive lineman from the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey) announced a May 30 decision date just yesterday, after having official visits scheduled to all three finalists, but it’s likely he will no longer take his visits to either Pittsburgh or Morgantown.

Pitt was Aamland’s second Power Five and third Division I scholarship out of the Hun School, and Pitt has been in his recruiting process since nearly the beginning.

247Sports rates Aamland as the 93rd-ranked offensive tackle and the 21st-ranked recruit from New Jersey while Rivals rates him as the 16th-ranked recruit from New Jersey. On3’s consensus ranking slots him as the 900th-ranked recruit in the class of 2023 (93rd-ranked interior offensive lineman and the 13th-ranked recruit from New Jersey).

While landing Aamland would’ve been a nice haul for Pat Narduzzi and Pitt, there’s no time to waste as Pitt’s hectic month of June kicks off with official visits starting this week.

Pitt has landed in the finalist tier for a couple of 2023 recruits over the last few months, including three-star tight end Vance Bolyard (Greensboro, North Carolina), three-star defensive end Kamari Burns (Columbus, Ohio), three-star cornerback Jermaine Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio), four-star defensive end Desmond Umeozulu (Upper Marlboro, Maryland), four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring (West Bloomfield, Michigan), four-star defensive end Dashawn Womack (Baltimore, Md.), three-star offensive lineman Jordan Church (Bradenton, Florida), three-star cornerback Shelton Lewis (Stockbridge, Georgia), three-star wide receiver Ayden Greene (Powell, Tennessee), four-star cornerback Braeden Marshall (Lake Mary, Florida) three-star wide receiver Andy Jean (Miami, Florida) and three-star wide receiver Hilton Alexander II (Douglasville, Georgia).

Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class includes four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey (Hendersonville, Tennessee) and three-star wide receiver Zion Fowler (Jersey City, New Jersey), and the class will only grow in the next weeks and months.

Not a bad choice … best wishes to the young man. I expect he can have a nice career there but don’t see loads of team success for titles or major bowl games.

Yep pretty much a State Penn troll, Brett Belima has had 3 winning seasons since 2012 as a head coach and he bolted Wisconsin due to Lord Barry Alvarez pulling all the strings as AD.
