2023 3-Star WR Andy Jeans Lists Pitt Among Top 8

Pitt hasn’t been a major player with 2023 three-star wide receiver Andy Jean from Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida, but it appears that a pre-existing relationship with then-Rutgers wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood has garnered a finalist status.

Jean (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) visited Rutgers while Underwood was still there, building a bond strong enough for the Florida native to travel up to New Jersey, and it appears that connection was based in a big way on Underwood. Jean narrowed down a list of nearly 30 offers to just eight teams: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami, LSU, Texas A&M, Penn State and Pitt.

On3’s Joseph Hasting’s first reported the news, detailing Jean’s decision and connection to a majority of SEC schools.

Jean originally committed to hometown Miami in January, but he decommitted in March. With official visits scheduled for Penn State (June 10) and Florida (June 24), it doesn’t appear that Pitt will be included in his final decision. Especially with schools like Alabama jumping into the process late and garnering contender status.

If Pitt is able to land Jean on an official visit, which hasn’t appeared to be the plan so far, it would be a strong addition to Pitt’s 2022 schedule of official visitors, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Jean caught 40 receptions for 733 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior in 2021, helping to fuel a high-powered Northwestern passing attack.

247Sports rates Jean as the 457th-ranked recruit in the class of 2023 (the 58th-ranked wide receiver and the 81st-ranked recruit from Florida) while Rivals rates him as the 67th-ranked wide receiver and the 77th-ranked recruit in the class.

Pitt has landed in the finalist tier for a couple of 2023 recruits over the last few months, including three-star tight end Vance Bolyard (Greensboro, North Carolina), three-star defensive end Kamari Burns (Columbus, Ohio), three-star cornerback Jermaine Mathews (Cincinnati, Ohio), four-star defensive end Desmond Umeozulu (Upper Marlboro, Maryland), four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring (West Bloomfield, Michigan), four-star defensive end Dashawn Womack (Baltimore, Md.), three-star offensive lineman Jordan Church (Bradenton, Florida), three-star cornerback Shelton Lewis (Stockbridge, Georgia), three-star wide receiver Ayden Greene (Powell, Tennessee) and four-star cornerback Braeden Marshall (Lake Mary, Florida).

Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class includes four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey (Hendersonville, Tennessee) and three-star wide receiver Zion Fowler (Jersey City, New Jersey), and the class will only grow in the next weeks and months.
