Pitt has been very active recently when it comes to recruiting Taft High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Taft three-star defensive back Tayshawn Banks has already committed to Pitt, and former Taft four-star defensive end Elias Rudolph has scheduled an official visit to Pitt from June 2-4.
And now Jay’Quan Bostic — a 6-foot-3, 180-pound three-star athlete from Taft — has named Pitt to his Top 12. Along with Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, West Virginia, Syracuse, Duke and Miami, Pitt has made his most recent cut.
“Pitt is a great school, and it’s a great place where you can be developed,” Bostic told PSN. “And I just love how the coaches recruit me.”
Randy Bates extended Bostic an offer back last Oct. 24, and while he’s a very capable wide receiver and defensive back, it appears that Pitt’s coaching staff views him as a defensive back at the next level.
“Coach Randy Bates has been my guy since day one,” Bostic told Rivals’ Clint Cosgrove. “He thinks I would be a great fit back there in the secondary. He’s a great coach and when you get two picks you get a pair of Jordans, so I like that, too. They also share a facility with the Steelers, and I like that about them, too.”
In two games recorded on MaxPreps, Bostic racked up seven receptions for 82 yards (11.7 yards per reception) and a touchdown as a junior, and he also flashed his length and athleticism as a defensive back, too. He’s a true-way threat at Taft.
247Sports rates Bostic as the 1,068th-ranked recruit in the class (138th-ranked wide receiver and the 45th-ranked recruit from Ohio) while On3 rates him as the 1,009th-ranked recruit in the class (141st-ranked wide receiver and the 39th-ranked recruit from Ohio).
Rivals hasn’t rated Bostic yet, but he does hold a 5.6 Rivals Rating.
The only current official visit that Bostic has planned is West Virginia, from June 9-11. He told PSN that while he doesn’t have an official visit set up with Pitt, there is mutual interest.
Bostic plans to announce his commitment on July 4.
Banks is Pitt’s lone defensive back commitment in the class of 2024 to this point, and Bostic would be a long, athletic addition to the class. Pitt will also host four-star safety Koy Beasley, four-star cornerback Terhyon Nichols, four-star safety Reggie Powers and three-star cornerback Nigel Maynard.
