Analyzing Pitt Football Recruiting and the Existing Pipeline

Pitt football recruiting over the past four classes have built an interesting pipeline of where they are landing commits from.

Head coach Pat Narduzzi and his staff have worked hard to build better recruiting classes over the course of his tenure. Years of increased success, culminating in an ACC Championship in 2021 plus two straight finished seasons ranked for the first time in four decades, has raised the level of the players Pitt will bring to Oakland in the future.

These four recent classes have seen the normal culprits with Pennsylvania and Ohio in the top states, but there are others that might serve as a surprise.

Pitt nabbed 15 players from the home state, but also an equal amount from Florida. This includes seven players from the Class of 2023, the most from any state in these four most recent classes. Notable players include Class of 2021 defensive backs in Phillip O’Brien Jr. and Noah Biglow, who should see increased snaps in 2023.

Defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, tight end coach Tim Salem and wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood have great connections in Florida, as well as other members of the Pitt staff. Expect to see more Florida commits not just in the Class of 2024, which has four Floridians, but well into the future.

Ohio is third with eight players, including three already in the Class of 2024. The two Class of 2021 players in offensive lineman Terrence Moore defensive back Tamarion Crumpley.

Virginia is No. 4 with six players and Class of 2021 three-star athlete now starting running back, Rodney Hammond, serving as the standout. Four-star linebacker.

Georgia comes in at No. 5, with recent commit in Class of 2024 four-star offensive lineman Caleb Holmes as the player who has the potential to serve as the cornerstone in the future.

Maryland, New Jersey and Texas each have three players each, while California, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York have two players each. Nebraska, Tennessee, Utah have one player each from those states and one international player in Australian punter Sam Vander Haar.
