Friday Pitt Recruiting Notes

Published

on

With all the Pitt coaches out recruiting, we’re going to continue to update you with Pitt recruiting notes.  As we get information in, I’ll update this.

**Offensive coordinator Matt Canada was at Pine-Richland on Thursday no doubt to check in on 2018 quarterback Phil Jurkovic.   I’m sure that Canada and Pat Narduzzi will be the 2 main recruiters of Jurkovic as they attempt to make an impression and form a bond with him.  Coaches from Notre Dame were also at Pine-Richland yesterday.

**This morning, WR coach Kevin Sherman was on the other side of the state visiting Bethlehem WR Darian Street.

“Coach Sherman and I talked about how I’m doing during track, we also talked about how my family and I are doing, and a little about how the spring game went. He also told me that they want me a lot at Pitt and that they believe I can go in and make an immediate impact. That stood out a lot to me”, said Street.

Street told me that he’s developed a solid relationship with various members of the Pitt staff.

“I’m closest with him (Coach Sherman) and Coach Duzz as well as coach Salem”, said Street. “I love that he is down to earth and you can talk to him as a person close to me, I’m comfortable when speaking to him.”

I asked him if there’s times he just wants to make that commitment to Pitt?

“When speaking in terms of committing, it enters my mind, I just don’t know yet.  I want to relax and just take my time, but time will tell.”

UPDATE (2:32 PM)-
**Pitt has made an offer to another highly rated wide receiver.  4-star wideout JoJo Scates picked up an offer today from Pitt.  Scates (6-3, 180) is a 2018 player from Dayton, Ohio.  Scates now has offers from Pitt, Iowa State, Cincinnati and Toledo.   Yesterday, Pitt offered two 5-star wide receivers from Los Angeles- Joseph Lewis (2017) and teammate Jalen Hall (2018).   Hall is a big-time talent and could end up being one of the 10 best overall players in the Class of 2018.

UPDATE (3:20 PM)-
**Just spoke briefly with Dayton, Ohio 4-star wide receiver JoJo Scates, who received an offer this afternoon from Pitt.

“Coach John Peterson the offensive line coach came to my school today.  He told me about how he signed some players from my area last year and about the different players who graduated from Pitt that are playing pro ball. I also learned that Pitt shares practice fields with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Pitt wants to schedule a visit for me up there so  that I could learn more about the program . I’m very excited to learn more about Pitt and I’m very interested in coming up there”, said Scates.
