CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Pitt’s ACC Championship Game victory over Wake Forest on Saturday made history as Pitt’s first ACC title since joining the league in 2013 and the program’s first outright conference title ever.
It also put the 2021 team in the record books as one of the best in Pitt’s long history.
Pitt’s win over Wake Forest improved the Panthers to 11-2 on the 2021 season. It’s just the fifth time in Pitt history that a Panthers team won 11 games in a season, and the first time in 40 years.
Pitt went 11-1 in 1979, 1980 and 1981, with the Panthers needing a bowl win all three of those seasons to get to the mark.
The last and only time Pitt has won 12 games was in its undefeated national championship season in 1976.
Great Pitt crowd Saturday, well behaved, boisterous and very loud during the playings of Sweet Caroline.
Return drive Sunday was shorter than it would have been with a loss. Passed a lot of supporters on the way.
Not going to lie, didn’t see 11 wins coming after that Western Michigan game. Glad to see them pull this off.
Is Pitt’s pay scale for assistant coaches causing them to leave? Nebraska reportedly almost doubling Whipple’s pay. Pitt on verge of turning program around and now we lost good OC. Timing of departure terrible
