Pitt has had great success over the last few recruiting classes landing players from the state of Ohio.

In their Classes of 2020 thru 2022, Pitt has signed K Ben Sauls (Tipp City), OT Branson Taylor (Elyria), LB Bangally Kamara (Akron), CB Tamarion Crumpley (Cincinnati), OL Terrence Moore (Massillon) and OL Ryan Baer (Eastlake). The Ohio connection has continued in their current Class of 2023 with verbal commitments from OL Phillip Daniels (Cincinnati), OL Colin Van Rooy (Strongsville), OL Ryan Carretta (Cincinnati) and LB Rasheem Biles.

On Friday, the Panthers extended an offer to a player that they’re hoping eventually becomes a part of their Class of 2024, as Charlie Partridge extended an offer to defensive lineman Angelo McCullom from Pickerington North High School in Pickerington, Ohio. This was memorable for McCullom because it became his first Power Five offer.

Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with an excited McCullom, who was hoping this offer would eventually come.

“At first, I was in complete shock when he told me”, said McCullom. “And then after a while I realized he was serious, and it hit me that it was really a dream come true. …

“Coach was telling me that he saw a lot of great things about my game and that’s why they were offering me. He told me that I matched up in terms of my playing style with a couple of players that played there currently, like Elliot Donald. I believe the strengths of my game are the way I get off the ball at the snap, I’m very explosive and I have very strong hands. I feel like I’m known for both getting after the passer and stopping the run.”

McCullom has visited Pitt in the past, including attending their season opener against West Virginia, and while he was hoping the offer would eventually come, he wasn’t counting on it.

“Getting an offer from them (Pitt) was something I’ve been thinking about,” said McCullom. “I was hoping it would come, especially since a guy like Aaron Donald played there. After getting the offer, I called my mother, my aunt, my cousin and my brother. I had to tell my family. …

“I’m still thinking about where I want to go but I can tell you that Pitt is definitely up there.”

McCullom told PSN that he will also be making an unofficial visit tomorrow to Purdue.
