Alier Maluk is one of the highest-profile prep hoopers the Pittsburgh area has seen in years.

Along with Lincoln Park’s Meleek Thomas, Maluk is ranked as a five-star prospect and is one of the most highly coveted young forwards in high-school hoops. After recently finishing up his sophomore season at Imani Christian in Pittsburgh, Maluk hit the ground running in the summer, playing for NY Renaissance of the Nike EYBL. Then, on June 15, his recruitment reached new heights.

Every year on the 15th, college coaches are allowed to contact rising junior prospects directly for the first time as the Direct Contact Period opens up. Year after year, top prospects watch their phones blow up with calls and texts from coaches all around the country looking to build a relationship as soon as they can. For Maluk, that night was certainly a busy one.
