Pitt’s Zack Austin has made tremendous improvements to his game from last year to this year.

Check out his redshirt-season highlights through Pitt’s first 12 minutes game.

Austin, who transferred to Pitt from High Point prior to the 2023-24 season, started 31 games for Pitt last year. However, he only played about 23 minutes per game.

This year, Austin has come off the bench in nine of Pitt’s 12 games. His minutes, overall, have gone up — and so has his production. Austin is playing nearly 27 minutes per game on average, and is scoring ten points per game. His shooting numbers have skyrocketed as well. Austin, after shooting just 29.5% from three-point range last year, is shooting an excellent 44.9% from three-point range this year.

The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native is leading the team in three pointers made with 22. He is also leading all players with at least 20 three-point attempts on the team in percentage from downtown, at 44.9%.

Austin has blocked a team-best 18 shots, eight more than any other player on Pitt’s team, and is averaging the third-most blocks per game out of all ACC players.

Austin was the hero against Ohio State earlier in the season, hitting a game-winning three pointer with less than one second remaining.

Before the season, he detailed his shooting work.

“The main thing I was working on after having conversations with coach, end-of-season conversations with coach is just handling the ball more and stressing being more confident in my jumper,” Austin said. “When I got here, we all know I can shoot the ball better than what I did last year. My main focus is just being more consistent in all areas in a game. Staying consistent on defense, staying consistent on my shot, just believing and trusting in the work that I put in every day.”
